Desperately Seeking...

I have a problem dear readers. And I need your help. When times get tough, and my hair goes flat - I find myself crawling back into the toxic arms of my old favorite shampoo and conditioner. I know, I know, I should be better than that. But in my defense, I just can't seem to find a natural shampoo and conditioner that works for my thick, but somehow fine at the same time hair. Believe me, I've looked. I've even touted a few on this blog that I considered "holy grail." However, the love never lasts. Within a few weeks, I notice my hair becoming dull, lifeless, and flat.

Which is where you come in - tell me your favorites! What works for you? Which brand should I try next? HELP!

  1. I use Yarok Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner BUT when my hair starts to become lifeless and limp I use Pratima Organic Herbal Hair Cleanser. It comes in powder form and you have to mix it into a watery mud. It cleanses very well without drying out my sensitive scalp and my hair never fails to be full of body afterwards. It can be a bit time consuming and a pain in the butt to apply and doesn't smell the greatest, but it works! My mom even said "wow I'm not used to seeing your hair with so much volume" after using the other day.
TIPS: I've found that I need more than 2 teaspoons of powder per use.. like a lot more. Also, I let it sit on my head for a while and make sure to massage it into my scalp really well.

  3. Hello megan,
Finding a good shampoo is also very challenging for me. Read my latest post until the end :-):

  4. I too have fine hair but lots of it. Rahua, and John Masters Organics leave in conditioner works well for me. Also, it sounds like because you find something that works for a little while, but then it starts to build up residue on your hair. An apple cider vinegar rinse (1tbsp apple cider vinegar to 1 cup water) can really help clarify the hair prior to shampooing. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  5. Unique! They are a danish brand with loads of different shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins and a really great Sea Salt Spray too. I love their Moisturising Shampoo but like the Volumizing and Deep Cleansing Shampoo as well. They also have great Body Lotions (love the smell of cornflower in that and the shampoo).

  7. I have fine hair but a lot of it and I have never had as much volume in my hair as when I use Acure Organics Pure Mint + Echinacea Stem Cell shampoo and conditioner. I also wash my hair at night and let it air dry.

  8. I have fine, long hair and no matter what I try, I always end up coming back to Desert Essence. I use their Green Apple and Ginger shampoo and conditioner for fine hair. It smells great, gives me great volume and shine, and is affordable!

  10. Megan, I totally feel the same way. Thanks for being honest, I sometimes feel so let down that non-toxic shampoos I initially loved eventually reveal their flaws. I think my hair is still just getting used to an all-natural routine so I'm still going back and forth between non-toxic and more toxic shampoos. :/
The ones I still love are from Acure Organics (I like the Lemongrass one the best) and the original Rahua Shampoo. Hope you find something that works and I can't wait to hear about it!
