I have a new workout obsession readers! I am on Day 21 of The Ultimate Yogi and it has completely transformed me. I'm stronger, more flexible, and I feel incredible. 21 days of this workout has pretty much blown all those years of cardio and strength training out of the water. Hence the obsession.
I started The Ultimate Yogi on a whim given my newfound love of yoga, namely power yoga. This program is often referred to as the P90X of yoga, which was actually the reason for my initial hesitation. I've grown a little tired of the P90X, Insanity type workout crazes. It all just feels like too much. But I travel a lot for work so yoga seemed like the perfect exercise option. Needless to say, I fell in love with this program after hopping on the mat the very first day. It's challenging and invigorating, but still encompasses the core tenants of yoga - breathe, mediation, and connecting to your body on a deeper, more spiritual level. (If those last aspects are the reason you just can't get into yoga, don't worry, this is not corny or over the top. And anyway, you're already drinking green smoothies, it's about time you let your hippie flag fly.) The program consists of 7 key classes with a few extras sprinkled in every 36 days to really jazz things up. If you think that your body is not capable of doing yoga every single day, you just might surprise yourself. The classes rotate in such a way that your muscles are never sore the next day. It's pretty fantastic.
Anyway, this post is not meant to be some infomercial type review. I just wanted to let you guys know what I've been into lately. Some life changing, transformative stuff, that's what! I'm telling you - give yoga a chance. It will make you a better, less stressed human. (With a killer bod!)
I'll keep you guys updated on my progress. 21 days down, 87 more awesome days to go! Woot!

This sounds great, I really like yoga but I think I might just settle for going to classes at my gym at the moment - I guess I use it more to relax and de-stress than anything else, I'm also in the beginner's class, so it's nothing too strenuous haha x
ReplyDeleteHey, I felt great the first time I could touch my toes! hahahaha. And I'm thinking of starting classes after I finish this program. I love the idea of a community of awesome people!
DeleteI'm definitely interested, how long are the workouts?
ReplyDelete60-75 minutes long (most of the videos are closer to the 60 minute mark). Not the shortest workouts, but sooooo worth it!
DeleteOh, i have always wanted to do that series. But never stuck to it. I go to a studio regularly. But always wonder what it would be like to do it at home and save some money. Good to know you are loving it.
ReplyDeletequestions: 1) does his accent bother you? 2) dont you think its rather long when it goes above an hour? 3) how do you fight the urge to not finish the longer workouts?
For some reason, the length of these workouts really does not bother me. Perhaps, it's because I am doing them early in the morning so my brain isn't with it yet. hahaha. And the first few times that I listened to the instructor, I could not deal with his voice, but as time has gone on, I almost find him soothing. How strange is that?!
DeleteKudos to you. You are a strong one for sticking to it. There are times when i gave up and biked my yoga but to the studio. But i have it on my list of to-do's for this year. I will probably do it over the summer. Keep us posted?
DeleteI already do the Body by Bethenny DVD and have been for quite awhile. I really like it (not a fan of Bethenny, but the workout is just right!). I'm up for something different, so I'm intrigued by the workouts you mention. My current DVD is 40 minutes long, so 75 minutes sounds like it'd be hard for me to work in.... and I have adrenal fatigue, so it's important that the workouts I choose are not too stressful for my body. I don't mind a challenge, but really-extreme-heart-beating-out-of-your-chest-and-legs-shaking workouts are not a good match for me. What would you say the difficulty level of this workout is?
ReplyDeleteGood to hear about the Bethenny workouts. They were on my list, but I hesitated to purchase them because it's Bethenny. Not a huge fan either. And since you have practiced yoga in the past, I would say that you'll find the ultimate yogi to be intermediate in difficulty. It's definitely not for someone that has never set foot on a yoga mat (he doesn't provide enough instruction for that), but I haven't come across any headstands yet either (which I would consider advanced). My heart is never beating out of my chest, but I do find that my legs shake with a few of the poses, but each week I get stronger and stronger so there is less of that.
DeleteDecided to give this a try because of your review, did my fist workout yesterday and it’s a hard one but I’m loving it (don’t tell anyone but I stop like 3 times to take some time out and I did not make it all the way to the end of the tape).
ReplyDeleteYour secret is safe with me! haha. You will be amazed at how quickly you improve though. Keep at it!
